Flattered and Furious…

Filed under: Marketing Minute - 28 Jul 2007

I decided to send out my newsletter a little early due to the nature of RECENT marketing promotions regarding…

Copyright infringement.

It’s not pretty. It can infuriate those who have been copied. Especially when the thief doesn’t even bother to change one word. Well OK, he did change one word… from my website name to his website name.

I can’t think of the last time I found myself so angry! Keep reading →

Adsense sites…Do they work?

I’ve started to experiment with Adsense sites by setting up a domain at YourLifeInfo.com.

The experiment is to see if Adsense sites really work. Each site is in it’s own subdomain so they’re treated by search engines as individual sites. I’ll have to keep an eye on my Adsense earnings and see what happens. I’ll be sure to post if any increases in earnings are discovered.

All the sites have Adsense ads on them so I guess we’ll find out. I’m not really going to promote these sites. I’m just going to see if the search engines find them and if traffic flows or trickles in on its own.

It should be pretty interesting to find out if these types of sites are worth the time it takes to set them up.

You can’t please everyone…

Filed under: Marketing Minute - 24 Jul 2007

I sent out a mailing last week which generated almost as many comments as it did sales. It caught my attention because it’s often very difficult to get feedback from my subscribers.

One subscriber referred to my offer as a load of “cyber poo”. A few people unsubscribed and a few others made a purchase.

There are marketers like Cody Moya, who will send anything to his list as long as it has an affilite link in it. Cody doesn’t care who he pleases, he doesn’t try to please anyone. He just makes money - loads of it. Keep reading →

JV Gifts Update

Filed under: Joint Venture Gifts - 17 Jul 2007

The recent problems with the script seem to have been sorted out and gifts now appear to be showing the correct “submitted by” name on the member download pages.

The database is sound, it was the display code on the download page that was causing the problem.

Now that the problem has been found and fixed, all remaining gifts will be approved, providing that all information for the gift has been submitted correctly and it is not a duplicate gift of course :)

After a manual review of the database by myself and the programmer, I can assure you that all referrals are being and have been tracked accurately.

Last but not least, I would like to apologize for the multiple emails you received while my programmer was testing the email system. We wanted to be absolutely sure there were no more bugs in the system. The email was not supposed to actually be sent out.

If you would be so kind as to check your gift one more time in the member area just to be sure, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks to everyone for your patience in this matter. I would especially like to thank those of you who sent me your name, the incorrect name beside your gift and the title of the gift(s) you submitted. That was a huge help in finding and fixing the problem.

Now we can get on with building our lists!

Back up your stuff!

Filed under: Marketing Minute - 16 Jul 2007

This weeks’ lesson: BACKUP your stuff!

I spent the last few days trying to fix my helpdesk. No matter what I did, I could not get the cron jobs to work right, so my email addresses were not getting checked, I wasn’t getting help requests and customers were starting to feel like I abandoned them.

I had no choice but to install a new system that does not rely on cron to process my email accounts. I still have a lot of cleaning up to do to get things working smoothly again, but at least now when someone submits a question, I will be able to get an answer back to them.

Anyway while searching for the tools I needed to make the changes to my site, I came across this nifty little tool:

TrayIt! allows you to save precious Taskbar space for minimized windows. This is very useful for items you always have open like your mail program. http://www.faratasystems.com/trayit/trayit.htm

I always have about 15 or more windows open so this helps keep me a little more organized by minimizing thigs I need open but don’t want to spare the taskbar space.

Another good utility is Simple Search and Replace. http://www.rjlsoftware.com/software/utility/search/ It is significantly faster and easier to use than any other search and replace utility out there. Works with .txt, .doc, .htm, .html, .php etc.
